Castilla y la mancha

I was just sitting here and I thought that Castilla and La Mancha sounds like a cool name for a cop drama. Two Latino partners, Roberto Castilla and Guillermo de La Mancha, fighting crime along the U.S. and Mexico border. I don’t know much more than that, but it sounded interesting to me; how do they deal with their heritage and yet maintain law and order.

Maybe they could be cowboys?

Whither Captain Moroni?

In the book of Alma, in the Book of Mormon, we read about a group called Kingmen who wanted to overthrow the government established by the Nephites, a democratic theocracy, and replace it with a different form of government; one ruled by a king. (Alma 51)

It is interesting to note that that the Kingmen only wanted “that a few particular points of the law should be altered.” (Verse 2) They didn’t want to change everything, just a few small things that would allow them to “overthrow the free government and to establish a king over the land.”(Verse 5) This event takes place just after a large war has ended, and the Lamanites were preparing for war, and their leader, Amalickiah, had sworn to “drink the blood of Moroni“, the military leader of the Nephites.  Continue reading

Is the Savior more than a worry stone?

I think the question in the title is one that every disciple of the Master must ask themselves at one time or another. When I think of my Savior, I think of one who is active in comforting me, and who is actively interested in my welfare and improvement.

Another change…

They say that he only constant in life is change. Well, here we go again. I have been notified that my contract will be up on the 16th of November. Once again I have had a job for two years, although this time I at least saw the end coming.

Back at work…

It is always difficult coming back after a long weekend, but I am glad to be back at work again. In this economy I am glad to be at work at all. There are times I look back at where all this started, a little farm in Orem, Utah, and I can’t believe all the things I have seen and done in the last 40 years. I have traveled all over the world doing work that I truly enjoy and love. I am happily married with three wonderful, smart, and funny children. I know full well that I can’t take credit for any of it. I have been blessed.

Of barbeque and the Civil War

I spent the day today with the family at Camp Floyd State Park. Every year on Labor Day they have a big party with Civil War historical events; like shooting a musket, playing kids games, making a dipped candle, and listening to historical reenactors as they show how things were done 150 years ago. Cassie had a great time making the candle and marching all around the park with her toy musket. If you have never been, I suggest you check it out next year.

and Back Again…

The bad thing about a long miserable road trip is that you have to make the return trip.

There…

I am writing this post on Saturday the 3rd. I will post it when I can because I have no internet.

I just took 9 hours of my life and rode my motorcycle from Eagle Mountain to Las Vegas. Sounds fun, right? Well, not exactly. It was amazing riding through the back country of Utah; I planned my trip the back way.

On finding a job…

My son has been working at Camp Floyd State Park for the last few months, but now their Summer budget is up. Once again he is going to be looking for work, lucky him. The economy is so bad right now that there just aren’t a lot of jobs out there. In August there were no new jobs created; zero, none, nill, zilch. Well poop. According to CNBC this is the first time since World War two that there have been no new jobs. This, of course bring me around to immigration reform. If one more person says; “They take the jobs Americans won’t do.” Well, I will tell you this, Christopher is ready to take one of those jobs, but he can’t get one.

Why I did what I did, when I know what I know…

One of the most common questions I get when people find out that I am a Master Mason is; “Why did you decide to become a Mason?” The question is usually posed by my fellow Latter-day saints, and is often followed by “Can you be both?” I will attempt to answer both questions in this post.
